Get directions to Regatta
Getting around South Beach is extremely easy, once you master the simple address rules. They are remarkably easy: streets go east and west, and are numbered; avenues go north and south, and are named.
The streets are numbered beginning with 1, and each street north is one number higher. So: 6th Street is between 5th and 7th Streets. There are a few exceptions: South Pointe Drive, Commerce Street, Espanola Way, and 14th Place are the most prominent, as well as Lincoln Road, which is between 16th and 17th Streets.
The avenues (and other north-south roads), beginning at the ocean, are Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, Washington Avenue, then Drexel, Pennsylvania, Euclid, Meridian, Jefferson, Michigan, Lenox, Alton Road, West Avenue, and Bay Road. James Avenue is only between Lincoln Road and 19th Street.
The numbering system is also extremely simple. Along the avenues, wherever a street meets it, the block north until the next street is numbered like the street. Example: From 5th Street to 6th Street along Washington Avenue is the 500 block. 555 Washington, for example, would be here.
Along the streets, it is a bit more confusing. Ocean Drive is 100, so from Ocean to Collins is the 100 block. From Collins to Washington, the 200 block. Then it gets tricky. West of Washington, the numbers are defined by the avenues, even where they don't reach.
If you look at the map, you can see that the area of Washington that would be between Drexel, if it extended that far (it used to) and Pennsylvania will be the 500 block, from Washington to Pennsylvania. Then Pennsylvania ends at 7th Street, so the block west of Washington between Pennsylvania and Euclid is the 600 block.
But the Beach is so narrow, only a mile at its widest point, you can just follow the numbers up or down: up, coming from the ocean to the bay, and down coming from the bay to the ocean.
